Corso Pilota Sport at Sonoma Raceway

The scenic Sonoma Raceway buzzed with excitement as participants gathered for the latest Corso Pilota Sport course. Known for its unique blend of instruction and adrenaline, this two-day program is designed to immerse driving enthusiasts in the world of high-performance driving techniques with a fleet of Ferrari 296 GTBs ready to be put through their paces on the 2.5 miles of open track at Sonoma Raceway.

A Personalized Learning Experience

The session kicked off with an engaging welcome and an overview of what to expect behind the wheel on the track. With a maximum of 28 drivers divided into four groups, everyone received tailored instruction to maximize the learning experience. From the outset, instructors emphasized the importance of the optimal driving position in the cockpit, setting the stage for effective progressive acceleration and brake control.

Mastering the Art of Driving

As the day unfolded, participants delved into the intricacies of precise driving lines through bends, honing their skills on the dynamic track. The skid pad and autocross course created a controlled environment where drivers could throw themselves into situations you would normally seek to avoid on the public road such as hydroplaning, oversteer, and full braking. By intentionally experiencing these scenarios, it allowed drivers to better anticipate, understand, and deconstruct both why these situations happen and how to safely maneuver them. There’s also the undeniable excitement of getting a Ferrari sideways!

Exploring Ferrari’s Performance

One of the highlights of the Corso Pilota Sport program is the opportunity to dive into Ferrari’s advanced electronic vehicle control systems. It’s a fantastic way to truly feel how these innovations enhance your driving experience! Drivers had the opportunity to familiarize themselves with various performance characteristics, enhancing their understanding of how different configurations can impact handling and speed. It offered a rare chance to push these cars to their limits, all while under the guidance of expert instructors.

Theory Meets Practice

In addition to the adrenaline-packed track time, participants engaged in several theory sessions. These sessions enabled in-depth insight into driving technique and helping drivers analyze vehicle behavior, ensuring that every driver leaves with a deeper appreciation for the art of driving.
